Review: I have read a lot of fairy tale retellings and I can honestly say Cinder is by far my favorite which only makes me feel more stupid for almost passing up on Cinder when I first heard about the book. Cyborgs didn't really appeal to me but after reading review after review of how amazing Cinder was I picked up a copy from B&N and read it all in one sitting.
The world was so captivating and the fact that it was set in a dystopian world filled with cyborgs, robots and otherworldly beings called Lunars made it for such a thrilling read. I would categorize it as Sci-Fi/Dystopian. The book really took off for me when Cinder's step sister Peony contracted the plague that is killing the worlds population, after that I couldn't stop turning the pages. I really liked the fact that Meyers stirred away from the two evil stepsisters and actually made one of them kind and a friend to Cinder.
As for Cinder she is a cyborg and a mechanic I really wasn't sure how I was going to feel about her character with her being a cyborg but surprisingly I loved Cinder, she was such an amazing character to read about. I really grew to care about her and everything she went through. Also I was curious to see how the romance between Prince Kai and Cinder was going to be pulled off. The chemistry between the two is turned up high and the fact that I really adored Prince Kai helps. He is a prince soon to be Emperor but the guy is so down to earth I couldn't help but enjoy reading about him.
Overall Meyers did a spectacular job retelling Cinderella. I mean this was just so freaking good if you haven't picked this up or it's sitting on your shelf looking pretty and you have plans on reading it one day just grab it now and start reading it. This is by far one of the best reads I've had this year so far.

This sounds amazing. I'm really fascinated by this book since I've been writing YA cyborg stories for the last 3 years or so. I'd love to see how someone else handled it. I definitely have it on my to-be-read list for 2012.

Glad you enjoyed it as well. I loved the dedication Cinder showed in trying to help Peony I was actually a little heartbroken with how things ended up for Peony.
DeleteOh, so glad you liked it, too. I also did pass up the book when I first heard it, but after I heard this really good review about it, I thought I'd give it a try. Good thing I did, too! I also did like the fact that Peony was actually a kind step-sister. I recently did a review on Cinder, too. I'd say this book is one of my faves of the year so far.
ReplyDeleteAnother reason why I am so grateful for all the wonderful book bloggers I have met if it wasn't for them and their reviews I would have never taken a chance on Cinder.
DeleteHmmm, sounds like I should take that pretty copy of mine from the shelf and start reading it! Cyborgs don't sound that engaging to me, but I heard so many great things about Cinder that I'm getting pretty excited to read it (:
