Owning a strip club isn’t the fantasy most guys expect it to be. With long hours, a staff with enough issues to keep a psych ward in business, and the police regularly on his case, twenty-nine-year-old Cain is starting to second guess his unspoken mission to save the women he employs. And then blond, brown-eyed Charlie Rourke walks through his door, and things get really complicated. Cain abides by a strict “no sleeping with the staff” rule. But being around Charlie challenges Cain’s self-control…and it’s been a long time since any woman has done that.
Twenty-two-year-old Charlie Rourke needs a lot of money, really fast, in order to vanish before it’s too late. Taking her clothes off for men makes her stomach curl but Charlie tells herself that at least she’s putting her acting and dancing skills to good use. And though her fellow dancers seem eager to nab their sexy, sophisticated, and genuinely caring boss, she’s not interested. After all, Charlie Rourke doesn’t really exist—and the girl pretending to be her can't get distracted by romance.
Unfortunately, Charlie soon discovers that developing feelings for Cain is inevitable, and that those feelings may not be unrequited—but losing him when he finds out what she’s involved with will be more painful than any other sentence awaiting her.
First Line: "Blood drops decorate the dusty gray concrete like an abstract piece of art."
Review: K.A Tucker has done it again! Four Seconds to Lose was oh so good and a great addition to the Ten Tiny Breaths series. I was so excited when I heard that this one was going to be about the sexy mysterious strip club owner Cain and it lived up to my expectations fully. I have to admit Four Seconds to Lose was definitely a lot more darker of the three books.
I expected Cain to be the mysterious type but wow I didn't expect all that! The man has a dark past and also a very tragic one. In the previous books we were told about how he was a good boss and didn't take advantage of the girls but I was skeptical going into the book but sure enough he is a decent guy and only wants to help the girls that work for him and wholeheartedly follows his rule of no sleeping with the employees...that is until Charlie walks into his life.
As for Charlie she is just as messed up as Cain, she is the step daughter of a mobster who deals drugs and has been using Charlie as his lackey. Charlie of course hates it and wants to just have a normal life but she is well aware of how dangerous her step-father is and is very afraid to cross him. She is just biding her time until she has enough money to change her identity, one that her step-father will not be able to trace back to her and she can finally be free of the life she hates so much.
When Charlie and Cain met for the first time Cain thought he was looking at Penny a girl he loved from his past but he screwed up and she was killed. Anyways I was slightly wary of that situation because I was crossing my fingers and hoping this didn't turn into a situation where Cain is only falling for her because Charlie looks like Penny and he keeps comparing the two and luckily Tucker stayed away from all that. Instead Cain loved Charlie for her and soon realized that she is nothing like Penny, she is stronger and non judgmental and accepts him for him. I think the only issue I had was there was such a huge age difference, it took a little getting used to for me.
Overall this was an excellent read the plot was interesting with an amazing set of characters I couldn't get enough of it.

Memorable Quotes: ~ "I just kicked the door wide open and invited a mountain of trouble in because Charlie Rourke has swung a wrecking ball into my willpower."
~ "For all that I hate about what I've done, there’s one thing I can’t regret.
It led me to him."
