Welcome to Book Flame's 13 days of Halloween Madness!
Today I would like to welcome E.J. Stevens author of the Spirit Guide series for joining us here at Book Flame.
Interview
2. What inspired you to write the Spirit Guide series?
The idea for the Spirit Guide series came to me while walking past an overgrown graveyard beside my home. I was overwhelmed by a strong smell and suddenly wondered what it would be like to have a psychic connection with spirits of the dead that came in the form of smells, rather than sight or sound.
Being haunted by ghosts is never easy, so I was intrigued by the challenges that a character with the gift of clairalience would face. I suddenly wanted to create a teen character who could face this challenge, and the turmoil of high school, with a spunky kind of grace.
3. Have you ever come up with anything so wild that you scare yourself and it leaves you wondering where that idea came from?
Every. Single. Day.
Seriously, I've often wondered where these ideas originate. My brain has an affinity for plucking bizarre concepts from the ether. Wacky, spongy grey matter. I studied psychology while at university and have investigated the paranormal for many years, but am no closer to understanding where my spooky plots and quirky characters come from.
Hear that, Brain? I will never understand you.
4. Would you rather meet a vampire or a werewolf?
I write about werewolves, but would love to meet a vampire. Getting inside the mind of an immortal could be fabulously illuminating. Plus, you know, they're HOT. ;)
5. Have you ever visited a haunted house?
Yes. I've explored numerous haunted sites, for both research and fun, and have lived in more than one haunted house (and one very spooky apartment). My experiences have ranged from terrifying to meh, depending on the entity haunting the locale.
6. Do you dress up for Halloween? If yes what are you going to be this year?
Absolutely. I'll be in Salem this Halloween wearing something Goth Victorian. I think. I haven't quite decided yet.
7. What is the first horror story you remember reading?
I devoured the writings of Edgar Allan Poe as a young child and was raised on Welsh fairy tales of changelings and child-eaters, but I believe my first horror story was from Lord Halifax's Complete Ghost Book. If you haven't perused this collection of ghost stories, I highly recommend them. Halifax's stories are especially fun to read aloud on a stormy night. I have a copy in my library to this very day.
8. Pumpkin carving or Pumpkin painting?
Carving. Getting up to your elbows in pumpkin innards is part of Halloween. It's all part of the fun.
9. Give out candy or Turn your lights off?
I'm never home on Halloween, so regrettably my lights are off.
10. Scary stories or Ouija board?
Scary stories! I love to weave scary tales that make my friends jump in fright. WAY too much fun!
Thank you for stopping by Book Flame, It was great fun interviewing you.
1. Do you research real events, legends, or myths to get ideas?
Absolutely. I am actually a huge research geek. I love discovering paranormal tidbits and my writing is often inspired by local history, legends, myth, and folklore.2. What inspired you to write the Spirit Guide series?

Legend of Witchtrot Road (Spirit Guide #3)
Surviving agitated ghosts, irritated witches, angry werewolves, and the horrors of high school has never been so hard.
The night of Samhain may be behind them, but Yuki and her friends have only begun to face the challenges of their paranormal gifts. Tensions are rising--in the pack, at school, and within their tightly knit group of friends.
The tragic death of Wakefield High student Dylan Jacobs has emotions boiling over. The J-Team, Yuki's arch nemesis, have turned the entire football team against her. They claim that Yuki is a witch and blame her for the death of their fellow teammate. Will Yuki be able to solve the mystery of Dylan's death, and the legend of Witchtrot Road, before tempers flare and things turn violent?
Emma is the friend that Yuki turns to when things get tough, but she's been behaving strangely. Emma has been acting distant and seems to be coming down with a mysterious illness. What will Yuki and her friends do if their healer is truly sick?
Calvin has become Alpha and wants the best for his pack. He is a dedicated and compassionate leader willing to do anything for the good of his people, but will Cal be able to hold the pack together when a fiery, young werewolf comes seeking revenge?
Simon may still be a roguish playboy, but he is taking his role as Calvin's second in command deadly serious. Will Simon be able to focus on his pack duties when he is forced to face his dark, emotional past?
