13 Day's of Halloween Madness: Guest Post by Lindsay Anne Kendal

Welcome to Book Flame's 13 days of Halloween Madness!

To start off the madness I am pleased to welcome Lindsay Anne Kendal. Author of the Bloodlines Series here today on Book Flame to share with us one of her spooky paranormal experiences.

Hey there everyone,
Thank you so much for having me here, I’m so excited.

I didn’t really know what to speak about today, I wanted to stay with the spooky Halloween theme, but tell a true story. Then I remembered a few people asking me... “Do you love getting the creeps and being spooked, is that why you write this genre?” So I hope you don’t mind but I thought I’d answer that question properly and share a secret with you all.

The female side of my family has what we like to call ‘a sixth sense’. That doesn’t mean I’m psychic or anything, although that would be pretty cool, but I can feel things and sometimes even hear them.

For example, I take regular trips to the Yorkshire Moors and the Northern Peak District. It’s not too far from where I live and my partner and I love it up there. This place became ideal for the setting of my new novel ‘Leticia’, (to be released in the coming months) for several reasons. The place is teaming with history.... and it’s full of activity. I mean, paranormal activity. Almost every time I go there I see or hear people. It’s amazing, but can also be quite creepy.

I remember one night clearer than any other. We were driving close to Saddleworth Moors when my partner decided to pull over for a minute to make himself a cigarette. It was a perfectly clear night, all the stars were out, it was beautiful. Then, this mist seemed to appear from nowhere. Not all around us, just at the side of my door. It freaked my other half out terrible; although he’d spent months telling me he was jealous because I could see these thing and he couldn’t, and going on about how much he wanted to see something, when he did, he panicked.

I sat there looking at the mist with a smile on my face. (Which seemed to relax my partner – a little.) I knew it was a child, I just couldn’t make out at the time if it was male or female. It meant us no harm at all. The temperature in the car plummeted, even with the heaters on, and my left arm went icy cold. But it was a fantastic experience, I was loving every minute of it.

When it was time for us to go, things changed. As soon as my partner started to drive off, I heard a little girls voice say ‘Why are you leaving me?’ It was crystal clear, and suddenly this rush of emotion came over me. I was literally crying, but I didn’t know why. About ten minutes later, when we were a mile or so away from the nearest town (Mossley), I heard a really loud shriek. I can honestly say it frightened the life out of me. My partner didn’t hear anything but saw me jump and said all the colour seemed to drain from my face. The next minute, something had a tight grip on my arm, so tight my circulation was being cut off and my fingers were tingling. It was the first time I’d ever felt threatened and genuinely frightened by a ghost. My partner sped up and got us off the hills as quickly as he could. When we were in the middle of Mossley the thing let go of my arm and when I took my coat off, I had red marks on my skin from where it had gripped me.

I've been up there several times since, but thankfully, although I have heard the young girl again, I've never come face to face with the nasty one.

That experience, plus many others gave me a lot of inspiration. I write YA/Fantasy/Horror so these things that happen will sometimes be mentioned in my work. It takes a lot to scare me, so I will always go back for more... if ever anything bad happens, I write it down.

I hope that answers peoples questions, and yes I’m weird and I like weird things, I hope that never changes.

Bloodlines Series

Bloodlines ( Bloodlines #1)
"Keira Jameson used to lead a normal life, she just had a gift, passed down through the generations of her family. Now, after hearing voices, having strange dreams of others calling out to her, and her grandfather's last words haunting her, she sets out to find other families like hers. Along with her best friend Lily, the only person outside her family to know about her gift, Keira begins a hunt for her ancestors. A chance meeting with a young man, Lucian Turner, sets them on the right track, but their discoveries change the way Keira will see herself for ever more. Fear, superstition and heritage are shaping Keira's future and she must face her enemies, even if this could mean losing her life. She cannot escape her destiny.

Part Buffy-style horror, part tender romance, Bloodlines will have fans of the genre on tenterhooks waiting for the next instalment of this gripping and hell-raising tale."

Torment (Bloodlines #2)
"Keira has been through Hell, literally..... But now she’s back, and stronger than ever!

In this second gripping instalment of the Bloodlines trilogy Keira and her friends – Lily, Lucian, Tyler, Jake and Danny – continue to try and understand their elemental powers, and protect themselves from their enemies, whose ultimate goal is to destroy them.

This time, the stakes are higher – what seems to be a demon rebellion has broken out in hell and the Earth is plunged into chaos. Their problem is, no one – not even Lucifer himself – knows who the rebel leader is. It seems only Keira, her frightened but determined friends, and a new ally – a demon named Eligos - can find out who this person or thing is, why they are suddenly causing so much bloodshed, pain and upset for everyone, and destroy them.

Bloody awesome battles, amazing feats of magic, and a stronger-than-death passion, make for an intoxicating, unforgettable read in this powerfully imagined fantasy..."

Revelations ( Bloodlines #3) Expected Publication : January 2012
"In this final instalment of the Bloodlines trilogy, Keira and her friends face their toughest battles yet. Not only with the ones they believe have set out to destroy them, but also with themselves and each other.

A shock revelation throws the group into confusion, torn between what each of them think is right and wrong. Keira now has to make a hard choice – does she stay with the people she loves, and fight with them – Or does she leave them, join forces with the person they originally thought was heartless, cold and brutal, but in fact, is doing something she actually agrees with. Something that could benefit and comfort almost every person who has ever lived.

Revelations will take you to a place you never could have imagined existed. Heart-wrenching passion, death-defying friendship, treachery and pain, mixed with extreme battles, powerful magic and self-belief, make for an unbelievable climax that will stay with you until the end of time."

About the Author

I was born on the 27th September 1983 in Manchester. I grew up in Droylsden, Manchester and I still live there now. I live with my Mum, Dad, Sister and two Jack Russels.

My dream is to become a full time writer, it is something I feel very passionate about. I want to improve my writing, and have people enjoy my work. I want people to be able to curl up on the sofa, or where ever  they are comfortable, leave everyday life and hardships behind, and escape into a world of fantasy.

I have had a love of fantasy/horror and all things weird/wonderful and Gothic since before I can remember, and began writing in the genre in my early twenties.
