Author Interview with Gwen Hayes

About the Author:

Gwen Hayes lives in the Pacific Northwest with her real life hero, their children, and the pets that own them.
She writes books for teen readers about love, angst, and saving the world.
Baffled by the fact that not everyone has people talking to each other in their head all the time, Gwen decided maybe she should start writing down what they say. She told her family she wanted to be a writer in 2007, they all nodded, and the adventures began.
Gwen is represented by Jessica Sinsheimer of the Sarah Jane Freymann Agency. You can also find Gwen every other Friday at The Fictionistas, the coolest YA blog in the whole universe, and just about every day she's tweeting something nonsensical on her Twitter page. She also keeps her blog updated with the latest news.

Interview:

If Falling Under became a movie who would you want to star as Haden and Theia?
I always have the worst answers for these movie questions. I really don't know!  I think I would prefer to see some actors who are REAL teenagers and I'd love for them to be unheard of before the movie. I love success stories.

How do you react to a bad review?
Nobody likes to hear criticism, but it's good for me as much as praise. It's hard to squelch the natural reaction, but I just take what I can and move on. Reading is so subjective. I've had people say they love the character names and another person brings up how dumb they thought the names were. Some people love Madame Varnie, some people think the character doesn't belong. I just have to shrug and be glad that people are not only reading, but talking about reading.

Is there a song you could list as the theme song for your book?
Tons of songs!  Here is a sample of my playlist for writing Falling Under.http://gwenhayes.blogspot.com/2010/05/songs-to-fall-under-by.html

What advice would you give to the aspiring authors out there?
I can't say enough about reading. That is the best advice I have--keep reading.

If you could jump into a book and live in that world which book would it be?
Well, it would't be mine! Under is creepy.

Cheerios, Gwen

  1. Great interview! I can't begin to explain how excited I am to read Falling Under, I mention it every time I have a book related discussion with someone!
